Beautiful Day

It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, and I'm in my classroom. Bummer.
We've had fantastic weather the last two weeks. Sunshiny, warm, little wind. Great golf weather, walking the dog weather, watering the dirt in the back yard weather (not much grass, but if you water it, it will come). Why can't schools do a reverse snow day? A "Chamber of Commerce" day. The weather is too good to pen kids (and their teachers, other staff) up, and let them go out to play. Wouldn't that be wonderful. Now if only rain water was beer!

Reminds me vividly of a beloved Philosophy Professor I had in college who took us out in thne Courtyard on days like these and taught. His colleagues thought he was a bit off center; he wasn't. A brilliant educator who enjoyed his life, his work and his students.

I've been known to take the students out and teach in the Socratic format (not to be confused with the Socratic Method) where the lesson is conducted as we are walking around the campus. Drives the administration crazy.
