WC 020123 What I Eat on the Average Day

Today's challenge: What I eat on the average day.

I try not to eat the same thing every day. I relish diversity.

Breakfast: It could be a bowl of cereal, oatmeal, eggs and bacon, a frozen croissant with ham, egg and cheese warmed in the microwave, with one of a dozen types of herbal and regular flavored tea. Sometimes fresh squeezed orange juice. Favorite teas are Bigelow's Constant Comment and Perfect Mint. Also, Celestial Seasons Sweet and Spicy, or if my blood sugar is high a Glucerna shake.

Lunch: My main meal. A grilled sirloin burger with mashed potatoes, corn or green beans. I try to have a salad, Cosco has a great fresh Kale salad with thin broccoli noodles.

If we go out, I like Thai, their version of sweet and sour medium spicy, never try Thai Hot! It will strip the paint off your car. The place I like adds a small bowl of onion soup with a few dollops of Thai oil, very tasty. You also get two small egg rolls with a thin sauce with peanut pieces floating on top, a fruit cup with watermelon and pineapple, and a rice pudding. I usually pass on the rice, but sometimes go with brown rice.

There are a number of great Mexican places, we go to the places with moderately hot green chile or red chile. There are Tourista places with mild chile and others for fire eaters. I prefer a burrito with either ground beef or chicken smothered in Green Chile sauce with pinto beans, not a fan of Spanish rice. Twisters, a local fast-food place has Christmas enchiladas, three enchiladas, one carne adovada (pulled pork marinated in red chile), one beef and one chicken, smothered in both red and green chile.

Fast food if I really want to screw up my diet. Blake's is the local hamburger joint. If you've watched Breaking Bad, you've seen the bags from Blakes. Sonic has a good green chile cheeseburger. I can't stand mayonnaise on a burger sometimes forget to tell them to leave it off. Wendy's does have good salads and chili. Arby's has a good Turkey, bacon cheese sandwich on whole wheat. I like their Jalapeno bites with Bronco Berry sauce.

Evening: We usually snack: An apple, orange, grapes, blueberries, celery stick with flavored cream cheese or peanut butter, sometimes on a vegetable Ritz. Hot dogs with mustard and green chile, Costco has frozen packages of green chile that are ten to the bag, I eat only Hebrew National beef hotdogs.

I also snack on homemade guacamole. I get avocados, puree them in a blender, add Sadie's Hot salsa (local restaurant salsa they also have a "Not so hot") and a bit of lemon or lime juice. Eat with tortilla chips.

My latest e-book on Amazon:

The Eagle, Earth Mother comes back as an Eagle and reincarnates to help mortals find love and happiness.

Your diet sounds delicious!

And, yeah, ordering the spicy version of Thai food is not a good idea for most folks. I didn’t know food could be that hot. Haha.

I remember being with friends talking about which place had the hottest chile, I asked them if they ever tried Thai hot, they both said, "once."

I'd also agree about spicy Thai. There's not enough water in the world!🤣

I went through a time where we ate the same things a lot - like Tuesday was tacos, Thursday was spaghetti, Saturday I made roast or meatloaf. I don't do that any more cause I don't like eating the same thing all the time either. We do still do tacos or something Mexican on Tuesdays though quite a bit.

George, you've got that right, and you need asbestos underwear.

Kal, it is nice to change things from time to time. Glad you like tacos.

Love, Love, Love good green chile! Now that I'm back out west again, I eat it on almost everything.

RE: Thai hot -- we recently took a trip to a local Asian market here and bought a few things. My daughter and I like spicy food, so didn't worry if something said "hot".

Boy were we wrong. She made some noodles last night that took off a layer of skin. LOL...

Marianne, I think it should come with hazard cones.

Sounds like we have very similar tastes in food! There's an amazing Thai place near us and I was telling my former boss about it one day. He gave me good advice - never order anything more than a spicy 3 at a Thai place. Hah!

I like hot food, but I have to admit, I don't think I've eaten hot Thai. Mexican is right up at the top of my "foods I love" list. I have to check our Sonic and our Arby's for the green chile cheeseburger and the jalapeno poppers/Bronco berry sauce. I don't know that they have them, but I can hope. I also love guac but I love it chunky. I could eat it every day.

Aymee, your boss gave good advice. I can eat hot, but it's at my limit and I am content with medium.

Judy, I found in Texas across the border from NM, Sonic doesn't have green chile cheeseburgers. Arby's might have the bites as Jalapenos are more generic.

I love thai, is my favorite, but it has to be hot for me!
And guacamole? Yes please!

Hi! I love your taste in food! Your posts are awesome!!! I remember from a previous post of yours about your tea. I am trying to stop soda pop. I am replacing it with homemade brewed decaf iced tea with lemon. I LOVE it, and it is really helping! It sounds like you have great places to eat nearby!

Thanks Berthold.

Danielle, yes we do, sometimes too many, the temptation to go out is pretty strong.

I'm a bit more of a fan of spicy foods than you seem to be (probably because of my allergies -- Spicy Asian Chili Death Sauce is the best over-the-counter decongestant that I know of) but all of those sounds like really great choices. (Also, good to meet another Hebrew National fan!)

Oh, and: on the subject of Thai Hot... my brother doesn't do spicy foods. Not at all. If it's spicier than milk, he's out.

So when we went to one of the local Thai places a few years back, I ordered the spicy noodles, 4/5 stars; he ordered the beef fried rice, no stars.

Only they... um... got that backwards. My noodles were tasty but not at all spicy, but his fried rice... it kind of glowed, with a dull, ugly red. You could see the sparkly red bits all through it. But my brother is also stubborn, so he tried it.

Y'all, I have never seen a human being spontaneously combust. But on that day, I sincerely believe we came as close as it's possible to get.

LOL, All power to ya on Thai hot. How much water did your brother consume? BTW milk is good at cutting the hot, also Coca Cola.

I also love Thai, and definitely agree on the Thai Hot. I've never been one for too much spice.
