WC 030321 My greatest weakness

This weeks challenge is: My greatest weakness.

As a writer a couple of my weaknesses technology has helped me overcome. Namely spelling and grammar. The latest version of Microsoft Word has upped my proofreading game very much. It still doesn't help me with "Horses humping over the fence." It's much pickier about commas now.

That leaves my greatest weakness as a writer:

PROCRASTINATION!

I was the one that waited until the night before a term paper was due to start it. When I'm researching a story I spend months researching the setting (Wikipedia is great). Sometimes I keep at it as I'm reluctant to start the story or the section of the story I'm working on.

The greatest feature of procrastination is the blank screen. What do I put on it?

Half way through a story and I'm stuck on what next to say I'll edit and re-edit like crazy until I'm unstuck.

Procrastination is one of my weaknesses, too! It can be tough to get started on big projects.

When I was in college and had a paper due, I would always wait to the last minute to do the actual writing. I had researched the heck out of it though and had all my note cards arranged and rearranged until I was happy. Then wrote straight from the cards. No rough draft for this girl!

Thanks for coming by!

I procrastinate like crazy too! I'll tell myself I'm "doing important research" but I really need to just sit down and start typing.

Amen, Lydia.

Wow, you are really organized. I only used note cards in speech class.

Martha, Back in my day, the hardest part was finding someone to type the papers for me. Manual typewriters and tabs of whiteout were my mortal enemies.

My kid is a procrastinator and it drives me crazy! LOL.. though, reading today's posts, it seems you are not alone.

I can sympathize and both my children were just like me.

Well, that's definitely not just you. Either I'm obsessing about a project and don't want to leave it alone, or I'm putting it off until the last minute.

Technology has definitely helped me write too. I am not sure I'd be a writer without a computer and supporting software.

Procrastination. It gets all of us. LOL

Seems to be spreading. :-)

Makes sense, Michael, if you're really into a project you're focused on it.

P M Prescott said...

We're in agreement there, Sheri.

P M Prescott said...

You got that right, Echo.

P M Prescott said...

It sure is, Megan.

I'm usually good at not procrastinating, but I do find it very hard to start stories. The opening is the worst part.

P M Prescott said...

Yes, Tanith, even when you have the plot down the opening is a killer.

Spelling. That's always been one of my problem areas, too.

Kate, that's why spellchecker is a lifesaver.
