Growing up with a basement full of books I never lacked for something to read. I also utilized the school library. I never had trouble writing a book report. It's hard to think back what to what was available at the time and I missed. Here goes.
Dragon Flight and Dragon Quest, by Anne McCaffrey. They came out in 1968 and 1971.
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. I read Screwtape Letters in high school. So tied up with LOTR I overlooked these. Made sure my kids read these before Tolkien.
Worthy is the Lamb, by Ray Summers. The book that changed my theology and gave me a bright future instead of a fearful one.
The Three Musketeers, and Count of Monte Christo by Victor Hugo
20,000 League Under the Sea, Mysterious Island, Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne
Little Fuzzy and The Other Human Race by H. Beam Piper. My children loved these books.
I never read anything by Edgar Rice Boroughs. I watched all the Tarzan movies, but never read the books. Think of all the John Carter books I missed.
I read lots of Zane Grey books, but none by Louis LA 'More

I read the Screwtape Letters but none of the others. I did read a lot though and my parents had lots of books, just different from these.

I wonder how I missed The Chronicles of Narnia. I think I remember seeing them in the library, and they are books that I definitely would have loved as a child. I just don't know how I missed them.
The Chronicles of Narnia is a good choice. Did you read all of them as an adult? I liked the way the last book in the series ended.
I read one of the Fuzzy books in high school -- Golden Dream: A Fuzzy Odyssey. I had no idea until much later that it was connected to any other books, but I remember liking it. Not written by the original author, though, apparently.
Tarzan was one of my mom's favorite books growing up. She never could convince me to follow suit in reading it...
I read The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe when I was a kid, but for some reason I could never get into the rest of the series.

I wish I had read The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and tbh the whole of the Narnia series when I was younger, seeing as I had the opportunity, but I first read it in school of all places! 😂
It was a while ago though, but I remember really enjoying it! I think I might look at buying a copy and then continuing with the rest of the series!

Chronicles of Narnia is making it on a lot of lists this week. I think I remember reading it as a kid. I've forgotten so many of them now.
